This Weekend in Burlington – May 27/28

The long weekend is behind us and we are moving quickly toward the warm temps and sunny days of summer.  With so much happening here in Burlington, we are starting a new feature for the summer highlighting festivals, events and happenings  to help you make the most of every weekend! Here’s your weekend events for May 27-28.

Nature Connects® art with LEGO® Bricks – Daily to August 20 

Take a stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens, Hendrie Garden and explore the 14 works of art created with Lego by New York artist, Sean Kenney.  Kids will have a great time at the Build Centre creating their own masterpieces.  Be sure to pick up an activity book and check the daily schedule for guided tours.

The RBG weekend events include blooms festivals, guided tours/walks, entertainment and more!

Yoga in the Park – Sundays to July 2

Join the City of Burlington and fully qualified volunteer instructors in a different park each week for outdoor yoga. Bring your yoga mat and/or towel, appropriate clothing and water. All levels welcome.

Farmers’ Markets – Friday – Sunday to October

Load up on farm fresh items and shop local producers at one of our two farmers’ markets.  Friday (8am-4pm) and Saturday (8am-2pm) visit the Burlington Mall Farmers’ Market and on Sunday (9am-noon) head to downtown Burlington for the Centro Garden Market.

Yoga, Hula Hoops and more with Burlington Beach Rentals – May 26 & 27

While our beach may be temporarily closed due to excessive lake levels and unsafe conditions resulting from this, our friends at Burlington Beach Rentals are a glass half full kind of people so their special events are still running.  Join them at Brock Park (behind the Art Gallery of Burlington) for New Moon Outdoor Yoga on Friday, Canada 150 Beach Yoga and a Hula Dance & Fitness Workshop on Saturday.

Lowville Festival – May 26-28

The Lowville Festival starting this Friday, features several ticketed events including Liona Boyd, Second City Comedy Troupe & an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.  Saturday afternoon, families can join the Art Gallery of Burlington along with other artisans to enjoy free fun activities from 1-4pm at the Lowville United Church.  For event details and tickets please visit their website.

ParticipACTION’s 150 Play List & Month of Play – May 27

Join the City of Burlington Parks and Rec department along with ParticipACTION on Saturday from noon to 6pm.  Celebrate play with interactive activities, sports and games, including wheelchair basketball demonstrations, a kayak simulator and photos with 2012 Paralympic Gold Medallist (and Famous Burlingtonian) Brandon Wagner.

Meditation Hikes – May 27

Get outdoors at Mount Nemo with a morning meditation hike that includes a series of short exercises and meditations from a Moksha instructor.  Be sure to register in advance, dress for the weather and bring a water bottle.

Rotary Lobsterfest – May 27

Get your tickets for the annual Rotary Lobsterfest (plus chicken and ribs) in support of Big Brothers & Sisters Hamilton/Burlington. Enjoy an evening of food, drink and entertainment all in support of a great cause!

Touch a Truck – May 27

If you have ever wanted to get up close and personal with firetrucks, construction equipment and more city vehicles, then you will want to attend Touch a Truck this Saturday at the Roads & Parks Maintenance Facility.

Let’s Live Green – May 27

Go Green! This Saturday join the City of Burlington Sustainable Development Committee for an afternoon of learning & fun. This event features over 30 exhibitors and 8 presentations, be sure to check the website for details.

Chimes Open Studio Workshops – May 28

Join the Art Gallery of Burlington in their Creative Hub for an open studio workshop from 1-4pm.  Embrace your inner artist and make a chime for the “AGB Garden of Chimes” community exhibition opening July 1st.
