This Weekend in Burlington – June 24/25

June 21st was  the longest day of the year and the first official day of summer. Take advantage of the extra time in the sun and celebrate summer in Burlington this weekend. Tune into June and check out the weekend events for June 24 and 25.

Pick Your Own Strawberries at Stonehaven Farms – Daily to End of Season

The Stonehaven Farm market is open daily for the duration of the strawberry season. Be sure to visit their Farm Market for fresh baked goods and gourmet foods. Check their Facebook page for current picking conditions, policies, and hours.

Nature Connects® art with LEGO® Bricks – Daily to August 20

Take a stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens’ Hendrie Park and explore the 14 works of art created with Lego by New York artist, Sean Kenney.  Kids will have a great time at the Build Centre creating their own masterpieces.  Be sure to pick up an activity book and check the daily schedule for guided tours.

The RBG weekend events include the Blooms Festival, guided tours/walks, entertainment, and the Hamilton & Burlington Rose Show.

Concerts in the Park – Sundays and Wednesdays to August 13

Concerts in the Park continues this weekend on June 25 at 7:30pm with a jazz, blues, rock, and swing performance from the Milton Show Band.  Visit the Central Park Bandshell for free musical entertainment every Sunday and Wednesday until August 13. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Check the event website for the up-to-date lineup.

Yoga in the Park – Sundays to July 2

Join the City of Burlington and fully qualified volunteer instructors in a different park each week for outdoor yoga from 10:30am to 11:30am. Bring your yoga mat and/or towel, appropriate clothing, and water. All experience levels welcome.

Farmers’ Markets – Friday-Sunday to October

Load up on farm fresh items and shop local producers at one of our two farmers’ markets.  Friday (8am to 4pm) and Saturday (8am to 2pm) visit the Burlington Mall Lions Farmers’ Market. On Sunday (9am to 12pm) head to downtown Burlington for the Centro Garden Farm Market.

Open Studio Workshop – Sundays

Join the Art Gallery of Burlington in their Creative Hub for an open studio workshop every Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. On the 25th, embrace your inner artist and make a chime for the “AGB Garden of Chimes” community exhibition opening July 1st.

Fit In The Core – Sundays to August 20

Burlington’s Fit In The Core sessions continue on June 25 from 10am to 11am with an intense cardio Interval Training class from 440 Fitness. Bodhi Bar will be handing out samples after the class. Every Sunday there is a different open air fitness class. Bring your mat and water bottle.

Hamilton & Burlington Rose Show – June 24-25

The 60th annual Rose Show takes place this weekend at the Royal Botanical Gardens. On Saturday, get competitive and enter your own cut garden roses and floral designs for judging between 8am and 10am.  The show becomes open for public viewing from 1:30pm to 5pm. On Sunday from 10am to 3pm, get some floral home décor through participating in a creative floral design workshop or purchasing some cut blooms.

Burlington Herd vs Hamilton Cardinals – June 24

The Burlington Herd will be taking on the Hamilton Cardinals at Nelson Park on June 24. Game starts at 1:05pm. The 24 is Bark In the Park, so dogs are welcome to attend . Check out the Herd’s website to purchase tickets and for their full game schedule. Come cheer on these hometown athletes!

Canada 150 Play List Gymnastics TRY It Event – June 24

The ParticipACTION 150 Play List identifies 150 physical activities that make us Canadian. On June 24 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, the Burlington Gymnastics Club will check gymnastics off of the 150 List and host an opportunity for members of the general public to learn about gymnastic movement and try out the sport for themselves. Check out the ParticipACTION website for their other Canada 150 sporting events, track your physical activities, and win prizes.

2017 Love My Hood Ward 6 Festival – June 24

On June 24 from 1pm to 4pm, Ward 6 residents and businesses will come together to celebrate healthy lifestyles, sustainability, and inclusivity in the community. Palladium Way will play host to Street Festival attractions including yoga,a bouncy castle, pony rides, a fire truck display, bike safety checks, art, face painting, a performance from the Burlington Teen Tour Band, and more. Meditation Hikes, Crawford Lake – June 24

Take a relaxing guided hike while learning the basic principles of meditation. Clear your mind and connect with nature. This event takes place the last Saturday of every month. Dress appropriately for weather and hiking. Bring a water bottle. Register online.

Burlington is a busy and vibrant city. There are many more opportunities to enjoy the weather and engage in the community this weekend…
