This Weekend in Burlington – June 10/11

June means that patio season, BBQ season, and summer outdoor concert season are in full swing. Hooray! In order to make the most of these warm weather festivities, you must be aware of the exciting things happening in Burlington.  Tune into June and check out the weekend events for June 10 and 11.

Nature Connects® art with LEGO® Bricks – Daily to August 20

Take a stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens’ Hendrie Park and explore the 14 works of art created with Lego by New York artist, Sean Kenney.  Kids will have a great time at the Build Centre creating their own masterpieces.  Be sure to pick up an activity book and check the daily schedule for guided tours.

The RBG weekend events include the Blooms Festival, guided tours/walks, entertainment, and canoeing lessons.

Yoga in the Park – Sundays to July 2

Join the City of Burlington and fully qualified volunteer instructors in a different park each week for outdoor yoga. Bring your yoga mat and/or towel, appropriate clothing and water. All levels welcome.

Farmers’ Markets – Friday-Sunday to October

Load up on farm fresh items and shop local producers at one of our two farmers’ markets.  Friday (8am-4pm) and Saturday (8am-2pm) visit the Burlington Mall Lions Farmers’ Market. On Sunday (9am-noon) head to downtown Burlington for the Centro Garden Farm Market.

Open Studio Workshop – Sundays

Join the Art Gallery of Burlington in their Creative Hub for an open studio workshop every Sunday from 1-4pm.  On June 11 and 25, embrace your inner artist and make a chime for the “AGB Garden of Chimes” community exhibition opening July 1st.

Fit In The Core – Sundays – August 20

Burlington’s Fit In The Core sessions continue on June 11 with a Prana Vinyasa yoga class. Every Sunday from 10am – 11am in Brant Street’s Civic Square there will be a different open air fitness class. Bring your mat and water bottle.

Full Moon Beach Yoga – June 9 – CANCELLED due to the beach closure

The Burlington Beach Rental’s next yoga event is Summer Solstice Beach Yoga on June 21 and has be re-located to LaSalle Park.

Sound Of Music Festival Kick-Off Concert – June 10

The region’s largest free music festival kicks off this weekend with a ticketed show on June 10. Headliners include The Offspring, Live, Marianas Trench, and Smash Mouth. For ticket pricing, event policies, and the complete concert lineup, check out the Sound of Music website.

Burlington Herd vs Brantford Red Sox – June 10

The Burlington Herd will be taking on the Brantford Red Sox at Nelson Park on June 10. The 10th is Country Day so sporting a cowboy hat to the game is acceptable. Game starts at 1:05pm. Check out the Herd’s website to purchase tickets and for their full game schedule. Come cheer on these hometown athletes!

Sound Of Music Festival Canada 150 Day  – June 11

In celebration of Canada’s 150th Birthday, an additional day of free concerts has been added to the Sound of Music Festival on June 11 from 1pm-9pm. The extra day features a Citizenship & Reaffirmation Ceremony at 2pm, a full performance schedule featuring hometown performers including The Spoons, Tebey and headlining performance from the proudly Burlingtonian band Walk Off The Earth at 7:30pm.  Check the Sound Of Music website for the complete concert lineup and schedule of events.

Sound Of Music Festival Club Series – June 11-14

The Sound Of Music Festival continues through the week with free performances at popular Burlington bars and restaurants. See the club series schedule here.

A Day On The Bridge – June 11

Spend the day on the historic McQuesten High Level Bridge from 12pm-10pm in commemoration of Canada 150. Experience the magnificent view of Cootes Paradise and the Niagara Escarpment while enjoying food, a scavenger hunt, yoga, and musical performances. After 5pm, the event transforms into a ticketed gala fundraising dinner and art auction. Check online for ticket pricing.

Mercedes-Benz Burlington Summer 5K – June 11

All participants that complete this second annual 5K receive a medal. Be one of the first 500 registrants and get a free T-shirt. Pick up your race kit at Mercedes-Benz Burlington on June 10 from 11am-4pm.  Run the race from 8am to 9:30am on June 11 and enjoy at post-race BBQ afterwards. Check the website for registration information and fees.

Burlington is a vibrant and busy city. There are tons more opportunities to engage within the community this weekend…
