Taste of Burlington Winter 2018 Highlights
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, A Taste of Burlington runs from February 19th to March 11th with 36 of the best restaurants in the city offering special 3-course prix fixe menu options.
In case you missed the launch, here’s a highlight of what was new this year, who won what, and some of the delicious dishes you could have devoured:
Two floors of dining!
Yup, they extended the dining space to the 2nd floor which included:
Craft Beer sponsors: Nickel Brook Brewing – I loved their Raspberry Berliner!
Milestone’s – California Spring Salad: a refreshing medley of goat cheese, fresh strawberries, red onion, spicy glazed pecans tossed with honey mustard vinaigrette.
Spencer’s At The Waterfront (runner-up for Best Taste winner) – Soya cured salmon roll, bitter greens, apple and daikon salad, horseradish dressing. My fave of the night!
Best Taste Winner – Turtle Jack’s Appleby/Mapleview with their melt-in-your-mouth butter tart made from pure butter and brown sugar.
People’s Choice Award – Barque Smokehouse (new to Burlington!) offered pulled pork tacos with smoked pineapple, hickory sticks and sweet heat BBQ sauce. Barque Smokehouse also tied with Spencer’s for Best Taste!
New this year to A Taste of Burlington:
Table 34 – Kudos to the Table 34 team who shucked fresh oysters all night!
Familia Fine Foods – Latin salad and chicken charras; Probably the most colourful dish of the night!
And no launch event is complete without sliders…
Jackson’s Landing – Atlantic salmon sliders with dill tartar sauce
Royal Botanical Garden’s Greenhouse Café – Sweet potato and ancho soup with cilantro cream, crispy parsnips, charred sweet corn and cheddar scones.
…and a variety of decadent desserts!
Beaver and Bulldog – Bread pudding dessert
Canyon Creek – Double chocolate brownies and torched lemon cheesecake
Kelly’s Bake Shoppe – Cupcakes!!! An extra treat for the 10th Anniversary celebration!
A Taste of Burlington is a fun event for Burlingtonians and out-of-towners, especially if you enjoy food, new dining experiences, and learning about new restaurants.
High-five to Tourism Burlington for always doing a great job in bringing together local businesses, the community, and in making events like this both fun and environmentally friendly (thank you to all the Burlington Green volunteers!) A toast to celebrating 10 years of great taste (with more to come, I’m sure J Cheers!)
