Summer Sizzles Downtown @BPAC

by Pam Belgrade

There are a number of wonderful performances happening this summer in beautiful downtown Burlington at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre.  Since I am fortunate enough to work downtown I am hoping to enjoy many of these performances this summer.  It will be a nice relaxing end to the day and a way to get out of cooking by having dinner on a restaurant patio before the show.  I encourage you to staycation this summer and add some or all of these to your family calendar and invite friends and family to visit.

A Burlington based professional musical and dramatic performing arts company, Koogle Theatre has a range of talent from up and coming local artists to professionals.  Spelling Bee has won 2 TONY Awards and is a hilarious musical comedy about six young spelling champions who learn that winning (and losing) isn’t everything.

The performing arts camp of Student Theatre presents a show at the end of each summer session.  Whenever I attend a performance I am amazed at how talented the students and staff are and am surprised that they are able to pull a professional show together in such a short time.  This is a great way to spend a lazy summer afternoon.

Aug 21 15 - Summer Series - BPACSummer Series – Free Live Outdoor Entertainment

Building on the success of last year’s Jazz in the Plaza series, this summer there will be FREE live entertainment on the plaza  in August working in partnership with Burlington Downtown. This is a perfect couple’s date idea, a great place to meet friends or a budget-friendly family outing.  You can have lunch/dinner at one of the many restaurants, take a stroll along the waterfront, enjoy the performance and end the day with a cool or sweet treat on an outdoor patio.  I am thinking Tuesdays would be a perfect girls night out – grab a bite and then kick back and take in a show and end with a coffee and cupcake – a perfect evening!

Tuesday Night Live – 6:30 – 8:30 pm

A free evening of entertainment every Tuesday, featuring musical performances across a range of genres.

Friday Night Jazz on the Plaza – 6:30-8:30 pm

Join us every Friday evening for a free jazz performance – a different performance each week!

Sunday Family Fun 2–5pm

Afternoons of free family fun, from music, to dance, to games, to sing-a-longs and more, there will be something for everyone!

If the weather does not cooperate don’t worry as the performances will be moved inside into the centre.  Snacks and beverages are available to purchase on-site.  Find out all the details by visiting the Burlington Performing Arts Centre site.
