November Features Creative Arts
Burlington is a year round hub of creative arts activities but the month of November seems to be a busy one with several creative events that celebrate the arts that will inspire you.
Art in Action Studio Tour
The month starts off on November 2 & 3 with the 17th annual Art in Action Studio Tour that showcases area artists and their fabulous works. I am looking forward to a day out with a friend, browsing and getting an early start on Christmas shopping with some unique one-of-a-kind gifts. For several years now I have spent a beautiful fall day visiting the studios, meeting artists, admiring their works and selecting some amazing pieces. This volunteer run event features 9 “studios” with 26 artists. With Photography, Jewellery, Fine Art, Hand Turned Wood, Quilting, Glass, and Sculpture it will be hard to pick which studios to visit so it is a good thing it is held over two days! I am really interested in the jewellery, stained glass and quilting and would love to take these courses to make my own creations. If you want to see a preview of what to expect at the studio tour the Art Gallery of Burlington has a exhibition and sale from October 11 – November 3 in the RBC Community Gallery. This studio tour showcases the very talented creative community we have here in Burlington.
AGB Guild Craft Sale
The Guild Christmas Sale presented by Arts Burlington is going on at the same time at the Gallery and it is a great opportunity for you to do some shopping for beautiful hand-made gifts. With numerous artisans participating, there is a lot to choose from for everyone on your gift list. I usually pick up some great hostess gifts, stocking stuffers and one-of-a-kind items. I also have bought some lovely items for myself to spruce up my holiday wardrobe. There is no fee to attend the sale and hours are from Thursday from 10 am – 5 pm, Friday 10 am – 9 pm and Saturday and Sunday 10 am – 5 pm. While at AGB be sure to also drop into the Art Etc. Gift shop one of my favorite haunts, to check out their beautiful holiday display of Canadian arts and crafts.
Soup Bowl Sold Out
Unfortunately, the Soup Bowl now in its 20th year and held at the Art Gallery of Burlington (AGB) from November 14-17 is SOLD OUT this year. Mark your calendar for September 2020 to get tickets for this event which is that perfect mix – culinary delights and retail therapy! Here is how the Soup Bowl works. You choose a fabulous handcrafted ceramic bowl from the hundreds of choices hand made by potters from across Ontario. Then you fill it with your choice of gourmet soups made by local restaurants. Add a crisp, fresh salad, roll and yummy dessert. The best part is that you keep the bowl you chose, a volunteer wisks it away, and it is returned to you clean and packed for you to take home. Over the years I have gotten a number of beautiful bowls in many shapes, sizes and colours that I proudly display and use for dips, candies, and soup of course!
The Art of Tea @ RBG
Celebrate this classic hot beverage with live performances and experience tea’s cultural origins first-hand with a traditional tea ceremony. Discover some new favourites while sampling teas from around the world, then learn about tea culture, history, and taste with educational presentations from special guests. This festival takes place on Saturday November 9 and Sunday November 10 from 10 am – 4pm at the Royal Botanical Gardens. I have attended this event each year and have enjoyed the demonstrations and found unique gifts for the tea lovers on my list.
So join me in November at one or all of these fun events and watch for our tweets while I am out and about. For more information on events and getaways visit tourismburlington.com.
