Mother’s Day in #BurlON
Sunday May 12 is the day we celebrate Mother’s Day; whether you call her Mom, Mum, Ma, Mama or Mother, it’s a day to say thanks for who they are and all that they do for you. Being a Mom to two children, I know it’s a day I look forward to each year and enjoy seeing what the kids (and my hubby) plan for me. Looking to celebrate Mother’s Day in #BurlON? We have some ideas to help make your Mother’s Day planning easier as there is lots to see & do in Burlington.
Tea at Ireland House – SOLD OUT SORRY!
Take Mom for Mother’s Day Tea on May 11 at Ireland House Museum. Guests will enjoy premium tea and sandwiches and desserts. There are three seatings available – 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm and tickets must be purchased in advance.
Celebrate Mom at the RBG
Enjoy Mother’s Day at the RBG. It’s a popular spot so their Brunch and Afternoon tea are both sold out. However, you can still take Mom and enjoy a stroll through the beautiful gardens.
Crawford Lake offers a Wildflower Walk for Mom from 12:30-2:30 on Mother’s Day. This is a popular event so don’t delay getting your tickets After the walk, enjoy a light afternoon tea. You can also visit Crawford Lake and enjoy a beautiful walk around the lake or hike to Rattlesnake Point – it’s a great way to get outdoors and spend the day with Mom.
The Centro market kicks off for another season on Mother’s Day and is open from 9 am-noon. Browse the vendors and shop for local produce at this community based market. Grab a coffee, enjoy the market, a walk through beautiful Downtown Burlington and along Spencer Smith Park – make a day of it and grab lunch at one of the many delicious downtown restaurants. There is something for everyone!
Take Mom for a ride on the rails! Moms are free on Mother’s Day with a paid child. Ride on a variety of restored streetcars, radial cars and work equipment from the 1890’s to the 1990’s. See the 1912 Grand Trunk railway station and 2 display buildings. Bring a picnic lunch or visit their snack bar and don’t forget the ice cream shop! No reservations are needed.
Burlington Performing Arts Centre is offering a 3pm show on Mother’s Day – Symphony on the Bay- American Proms; a tribute to Benny Goodman. Or catch a 7:30 pm performance of Girls Nite Out, a hilarious night of comedy and improv geared for women (mature audience). Or visit Drury Lane Theatre for their show ‘ Monty Python’s Spamalot’. at 2 pm on Mother’s Day.

Visit the Farm
Plan a visit to Springridge Farm who are hosting Mairlyn Smith on Mother’s Day from 2-4 pm. This free event allows you to hear the author and get the chance to purchase her book and have it signed. Her newest book is called Peace, Love and Fibre. Register in advance for this event. After the book talk (or before), enjoy lunch or a tea and baked treat in the gift barn. And why not let Mom choose her own gift from the beautiful items in the gift barn – we have our wish list going!
A Night Away
Make a night of it and let Mom have a night away – with or without the kids! The new Courtyard Marriott Burlington has a special Mother’s Day promotion with a great rate with upgraded king room accomodation, and it also includes a glass of wine for Mom, a discount for hair styling with Blo Burlington and a late check-out of 2:00 pm so Mom can get that much deserved sleep in.

Give Mom a break from the kitchen with dinner out. We have so many great restaurants in Burlington for you to try. The Water Street Cooker which has beautiful lakefront views is offering a special dinner buffet running 3:30-6 pm (6 is the last reservation available). They will feature prime rib, salads and seafood and an assortment of pastas plus lots of other delicious food. (Please note their Sunday brunch is already sold out for Mother’s Day). If you’re looking for gift ideas for Mom, Burlington has so many great spots to shop. Visit Downtown Burlington for lots of different boutiques and stores. Pure Boutique has great jewellery and scarves, Burlap and Twine has wonderful bath and skincare products that Mom would love and Joelle’s has so many beautiful tops, scarves and accessories that we know you’ll find something for your special Mom (or for yourself if you are allowed to pick out your own gift!). Get Mom flowers from Brant Florist, a new book from A Different Drummer Books or you can never go wrong with a gift card for the spa – Spa in the Village has recently undergone a gorgeous renovation and what Mom doesn’t love time at the spa? And we’ve all heard the term Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend. Give that a test with a visit to Harmony Fine Jewellers in downtown Burlington, we know you’ll find something perfect for the Mom in your life there.
Want to treat Mom extra special on Mother’s Day? Get her a treat – there are so many good ‘treat’ spots in Burlington. Visit Mrs. B’s Gifthouse for their homemade biscotti and gift baskets, Christy’s Gourmet Gifts has lots of tasty treats for Mom , Kelly’s Bake Shoppe is full of delicious cupcakes and other amazing baked goods and one can never go wrong with anything from Walkers Chocolates!
For a unique idea, why not get Mom a gift certificate for a food tour? Burlington Food Tours has tours starting on Mother’s Day May and they run monthly until October. Each month features different restaurants on their tour and their website highlights the restaurants on each tour. Makes for a great afternoon out for Mom!
And our furry friends can’t forget to thank Mom for all she does for them as well. On a recent visit to Springridge Farm we found these great mugs that Mom would love to receive from her beloved pet.
