Joseph Brant Day Festival
When you think of summer festivals in Burlington, you usually think of the waterfront, but on Monday August 4, the fun is at LaSalle Park as the Museums of Burlington present Joseph Brant Day Festival. This longstanding event is a favourite of mine with lots of fun packed into a one day event. This event, as the name suggests, celebrates one of Burlington’s most famous original settlers—Joseph Brant Thayendanegea and includes historic re-enactors bringing history to life amoungst all the other activities planned for the day.
One of the great things about this festival is location. LaSalle Park is ideally situated on the lake and has lots of shady areas to enjoy a picnic lunch or grab something from the BBQ on-site as well as a wading pool/splash pad for the kiddies to cool off in on a warm summers day. The festival runs from 10am – 5pm and is free (what could be better than that!) There are visitor shuttles that run from the local parking lot of the Aldershot GO Station to LaSalle Park for the duration of the festival.
Upon arrival you will find plenty to do, from the REMAX hot air balloon rides (10a-1p), the Toronto FC inflatable sports field (my girls had a great time with this last year). Tiara princesses tea party tent (another fav for my girls), the Pan Am games activity station, Museums of Burlington crafts and workshops and so much more….you will not be bored.
The opening ceremonies are at 11am with Burlington’s own Teen Tour Band, the Knights of Columbus and special guests. After the opening the fun continues with a full line up of performers including:
- Japanese Daiko drum performance – 12:30pm
- Shamrock Academy of Irish Dancers – 1:00pm
- Andre & The J-Tones Rhythm and Blues Experience – 1:45pm
- The Madame Buskerfly Show – 2:45pm
- The Lost Dancers of the Six Nations – 4:15pm
- JuggleMagic – various times throughout the day
Make sure to leave time to explore the artisans and vendors as well as the silent auction items up for grabs.
This holiday weekend, pack some sunscreen, hats and make your way to the Joseph Brant Festival … you’ll be glad you did.
