Holiday Gift Guide 2016
Every year here at Tourism Burlington, we head out and visit local retailers to find some inspiration for our holiday gift guide. One of the great things about shopping local is it not only supports our small business community but it also provides you with some really unique gifts for those special people on your “good list”. So without further ado, here are our picks for 2016.
Holiday Gift Guide – Scrivener’s Men’s Apparel
These days, not only do you want a wallet that looks good but also one that protects your privacy. The Secrid© wallet incorporates an ultra-thin aluminium card protector that provides a firewall in your wallet, protecting your cards from digital thieves. We did make this an unofficial pick for “guys” but I think ladies would love these stylish wallets too.
Holiday Gift Guide – Joelle’s
We love this Lalicious© Glow on the Go Travel Collection. The collection includes their whipped sugar scrub, shower oil & bubble bath, hydrating body butter and “the oil”. All Lalicious© products are paraben free, gluten free and sulfate free and are never tested on animals. This gift set comes in a purse friendly cosmetic bag and all of the products inside are TSA-approved sizes, perfect for travelling or at the gym.
This holiday season find your balance with a lokai bracelet. The story behind these bracelets is quite inspiring and you can feel good knowing that 10% of each sale goes to charity. The version below supports (RED)® in their fight for an AIDs free generation.
Holiday Gift Guide – Centro Garden
If you have a yogi on your list then these adorable yoga sculptures would make the perfect gift. Choose from a variety of yoga poses and at only $21.00 it’s an affordable choice. Add a gift certificate from Bodhi Bar and the recipient can get a post yoga cold pressed juice or smoothie. #winwin
We also found these amazing desk nameplates. We love the vintage feel with the updated messages. If your boss has a great sense of humour, it could be the gift you’ve been looking for. We should note that there are some other options that were NSFW (you can view them in-store)
Holiday Gift Guide – Fairhome Interiors
I’ll admit it, I love kitschy things… and these may or may not fall into that category. This line of marshmallow (s’more) themed gift items is just the right mix of fun and function. I have my eye on a few mugs for my friends (and one for me) and I think my kids will love the s’more tree ornaments. All these items are under $20.00.
The other thing that caught my eye was the drumstick pens. I always wanted to be a drummer, or singer but sadly I lack “musical talent”. With these pens in hand I can listen to my favourite tunes, get in some drumming practice or go full out rock goddess (with the door closed of course!), and then get back to the business of work. This makes a great stocking stuffer for anyone.
p.s. please don’t tell the boss about the drumming.
Holiday Gift Guide – Bark & Fritz
Some people have children, some have fur babies and others have both. If you are looking for something special for the pet or pet lover in your life then head north to Bark & Fitz. With new stock arriving regularly, we were just on time to see these adorable collars get unpacked. With one of these, even fido can get dressed up for the holidays with the option of a tie or bow tie (not pictured). They are velco at the back so it’s safe for your pet and easy to get on and off.
They also carry dog cookies. These aren’t your everyday milk bones, these are specially crafted cookies that look so good I was tempted to give them a try! Be sure to grab a few so your pooch can enjoy a festive dessert this Christmas.
Holiday Gift Guide – Teresa Seaton Gallery
If you want to give a truly one of a kind gift then be sure to visit Teresa Seaton at her gallery/shop in Aldershot. Teresa is a stained glass artist and we really loved all her work but thought these “Escarpment Trees” pieces would be a great gift idea. They are ready for hanging and can be displayed indoors or outside. At only $75.00 this is a wonderful way to support a local artist and give a one of a kind gift to someone special. We have pictured a few here but there are many more to choose from.
Holiday Gift Guide – Kelly’s Bake Shoppe
When you say something is gluten free and vegan, most people have a preconceived idea of what to expect, but the mother daughter team at Kelly’s Bake Shoppe (and of Lettuce Love) want you to know that it means delicious! Not only do Kelly and Erin run Kelly’s Bake Shoppe and Lettuce Love but they also found some time to take all the great recipes that their customers have grown to love and turn them into a cookbook – “Made with Love” Stop by their shoppe in Downtown Burlington and pick up a copy for anyone on your list that loves to cook/bake.
While you’re there, treat yourself to a cupcake (or two) …you deserve it after all that shopping!
Holiday Gift Guide – Tamp Coffee Co.
Java lovers, coffee addicts…it really doesn’t matter what you call them, they all have one thing in common – the love of a good cup of coffee! Around Burlington, you will find them at Tamp Coffee Co. enjoying a drip coffee, flat white or one of the many other handcrafted beverages made by Tamp’s baristas. This holiday season, they can enjoy that same flavour at home too with a bag of Tamp Coffee and a keepcup re-usable mug. It’s good taste meets good for the environment.
Holiday Gift Guide – Art Etc at the Burlington Art Gallery
The Art Etc. Gallery Shop carries handcrafted Canadian items made with the best craftsmanship and attention to detail. You can find a wide variety of items in the shop and we highly recommend heading there to check it out yourself. We really love the line of bracelets and earrings by Niagara Falls Jewellery designer, Jon Klar. Made by hand using sterling silver combined with other materials, the outcome is spectacular and is sure to please when received this holiday season.
We couldn’t visit everywhere and see everything so we leave you with some other ideas for finding that perfect holiday gift:
