Family Day Weekend 2017

by Linda Cvetanovic

The Family Day weekend is perfectly timed to help us beat the mid-winter blues and spend time with our loved ones.  There is lots to see and do in Burlington to keep you and your family busy as you celebrate Family Day.  Our visitor centre will be open Saturday February 18 & Sunday February 19th from 9am – 4pm but we will be closed on Monday February 20th (Family Day).  For information on City services visit their website and don’t forget parking is free in municipal lots & meters in Downtown Burlington on weekends and holidays.

Family Day – A time to play!

Join the City of Burlington for a swim or skate this Family Day (Feb. 20) and pay only $1.50 as part of the #Canada150 celebrations if you wear red & white.  You can also swim/skate free by showing your Canadian pride, find out how here.

Fun Swim

Aldershot pool 10 a.m. to noon

Public Skate
Appleby pad 1 noon to 2 p.m.
Appleby pad 2 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Other great places to lace up your skates include:

Eleanor’s Annual Family Day Skate – join MPP Eleanor McMahon for a free skate and cup of hot chocolate at Central Arena from 11am-1pm on Family Day.

Head to Rotary Centennial Pond to enjoy outdoor skating on the rink overlooking the waterfront.  No skates? No problem, take advantage of the free skating lending program (subject to availability).

Get vertical at Glen Eden where you can ski or snowboard one of the many runs from beginner to advanced.  Want to try some tricks? Be sure to visit their terrain park for some fun.  Remember just because it not snowy in your backyard doesn’t mean it’s not snowy on the hills.

Step back in time at Crawford Lake Conservation and experience winter fun at the Snowflakes and Snowsnakes event from Feb. 18-20.   Activities include: legends in the longhouse, snowshoeing and snowsnake (a traditional Iroquoian winter game) demonstrations, marshmallow roasts, craft making and much more!   At Mountsberg Conservation, families can gather round for Tales by a Winter’s Fire from Feb. 18-20. Enjoy a winter sleigh ride, roast hotdogs by an outdoor bonfire and more!

Any day is a great day for a hike and family day is the perfect time to hit the trails.  Explore the trails at Royal Botanical Gardens, Conservation Halton, Bronte Creek Provincial Park or along the Bruce Trail.  Don’t forget your “four legged” family members as you head out – after all “Fido” appreciates nature too!

Family Day Fun Starts Here
