Canada Day in #BurlON 2020

Canada turns 153 this year, and while festivities may be a bit different this year you can still celebrate from home while physical distancing. Celebrate Canada Day from home in #BurlON with a Virtual Canada Day Celebration with former TV host from MuchMusic and ET Canada, Rick Campanelli.

Canada Day Ribfest

Rotary Burlington-Lakeshore is hosting a Drive-Thru, socially distant Ribfest for Canada Day. From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., four award-winning BBQ teams will be serving ribs, pulled pork, and chicken at the Burlington Centre parking lot. Also, enjoy live music from local favourites from the safety of your car.  The annual Ribfest Labour Day weekend is cancelled due to the pandemic, but we love how the Rotary has adapted and think it’s going to be great!

Mermaid RBG Rock GardenRoyal Botanical Gardens

The Royal Botanical Gardens has opened all outdoor garden areas. Spend Canada Day engaging with the beautifully cultivated gardens, nature trails, and green spaces. Learn about local plant life, native species, and rare plants all featured at the RBG. There’s much to see, including Hendrie ParkDavid Braley and Nancy Gordon Rock GardenLaking Garden and the Arboretum. Visit their website for information on what precautions the RBG is taking to enforce physical distancing.

Patios are open in #BurlON and Nickel Brook Brewing Co. is opening their Beer Garden with a Brewer’s Bazaar. On July 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., shop the farmer’s market and beer garden and enjoy products from a variety of vendors.

Canada Day DrummingNational Canada Day Drumming Experience.

This year #BurlON is joining in on Canada Day Drumming. This nationwide celebration has been held for the past three years in 15 cities, where Canadians join together for six minutes of simultaneous drumming. The pre-show begins at 1 p.m. EDT and the drumming start at 2 p.m. EDT. Join in as we celebrate diversity, multiculturalism, and thank all essential workers. Click here for the link to watch.

Learn more about Canada’s history with two different Virtual Programs on CBC and on Canadian Heritage’s social media. Hosted by Serena Ryder and Pierre-Yves Lord, enjoy performances from talented artists across Canada.

The daytime show, Canada Day Across the Country, is at 1 to 2 p.m., gives you a virtual tour of the celebrations.

The evening show, Canada Day Together, is at 8 to 10 p.m., ends with a montage of the best Canada Day fireworks from past celebrations.

CRASH Rhythm is providing two interactive drumming sessions for the whole family to participate. Full videos will be released prior to Canada Day. This event is at 10:30 a.m.

Join Aaron Bell, First Nations storyteller and founder of the White Pine Dancers, for a six-part series on traditional stories about Indigenous culture and way of life. Check here for updates about the full videos, and join the event at 11 a.m.
