It’s so hard to believe it’s the last long weekend of the summer! But what a way to end it in #BurlON – with Canada’s Largest Ribfest taking place!

You definitely don’t want to miss out on this great annual event to end the summer.  From Friday August 30 to Sept 2 enjoy mouth-watering ribs from 17 ribbers, entertainment, crafters and other food vendors. It’s going to be a delicious weekend in Spencer Smith Park! Enjoy live music on 2 stages with bands such as Freedom Train and The Dirty Pioneers. And don’t miss the Emerging Artists Showcase to see some great local talent. For the full entertainment line-up click here.  Ribfest runs Friday, Sat and Sun 11 am-11 pm and Monday 11 am-7 pm. If you visit on Friday afternoon between 12-5 mention Rotary Ribfest to your favourite ribber and enjoy $3 off a half rack dinner. Ribfest is a fundraiser of the Rotary Burlington Lakeshore who have raised over $3 million to date for community groups and charities.

Burlington is definitely the place to be for foodies this weekend with the summer Taste of Burlington program on.  This is the final weekend of this prix-fixe dining program which ends Monday September 2 (please call ahead to restaurants to make sure they are open on Labour Day Monday). 31 restaurants across #BurlON are participating and offering fantastic menus for lunch and dinner. Lunches range from $15-25 and dinners from $30-40. The Taste of Burlington site has all the menus posted.  Post pics of your food on social media and tag @TasteofBurl for the chance to win a gift card to one of the participating restaurants. Markets

It’s a great time of the year to visit one of the many markets Burlington has to offer. With Ontario peaches, corn and other veggies, you can stock up for your bbq’s and for the long weekend.

Thursday evening from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. is the Breaking Bread Farmers’ Market, with a pay-what-you-can BBQ, vendors, crafts, and sports.

Every Sunday from 9 am to 12 pm is the Centro Garden Farmer’s Market in Downtown Burlington. Shop a variety of vendors and enjoy coffee from Tamp coffee as you browse.

In the Burlington Centre Parking Lot is the Farmer’s Market,  This market runs several times during the week; Wednesdays 8 am to 2 pm, Fridays 8 am to 3 pm, and Saturdays 8 am to 2 pm until Oct 26.

Fun at the Royal Botanical Gardens

The Royal Botanical Gardens has played host to  Shakespeare at the Rock  and the last performance is Friday August 30. Enjoy a night of entertaining and inspiring theatre under the stars in the historic Rock Garden. Tickets are available online, pre-registration is required.

From Sat August 31 to Monday Sept 2 the Escarpment Train Exhibit returns to the RBG Rock Garden.  This exhibit is open 10:30 am to 4:00 pm and is included in your admission.

Sunday Funday

Start your day off right on Sunday Sept 1 with Fit in the Core, an outdoor exercise class in Downtown Burlington. The class runs 10-11 am outside the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, all you need to bring is your mat and a water bottle. This weeks class is a yoga-lates, a mixture of yoga and pilates. 

There is always lots to do at the Royal Botanical Gardens with a variety of activities offered daily. Join them Sundays at 2 pm for the Back to Nature Hike.

Every Sunday is a Funday at the Art Gallery with their  Family Sunday Open Studio. There is always free admission and it’s a great way to get creative as a family. While you are there, check out the Eruptions Exhibit, running until October 27.

Swimming Fun

Take advantage of the final days of summer and get outdoors and swim while the outdoor pools are still open. The outdoor pools at Nelson Pool and Splash Park, Mountainside Pool and Splash Park, and LaSalle Splash Park are open until Monday September 2. See here for schedule.  Bronte Creek Provincial Park still has their outdoor pool open until Monday September 2 also. Plan a visit to the park this weekend.
