#BurlON til Apr 17

by Guest Writer

We’re about midway through April and it’s warming up here in #BurlON so it’s the perfect time to explore the outdoors! Hike through the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens or learn about birds of prey at the Mountsberg Raptor Centre. Here’s our list of things to do in #BurlON for this week.

Spiders Alive

Ending this weekend is Spiders Alive! Arachnophobes beware; the Royal Botanical Gardens will be crawling with spiders and their arthropod friends. Here you can learn about the many adaptations and behaviours of spiders and other creatures in two interactive exhibits and daily programs for all ages. This event is included in your general admission to the RBG, so make sure to stop by during your visit.

This Friday April 12 put on your pj’s for Pyjama Party at the RBG. Spider’s Alive will be open late for fun activities, games, and a chance to meet the creatures. This event is also included in your general admission.

Explore the Outdoors

Get outside and enjoy spring here in #BurlON. Visit Crawford Lake and tour the Iroquoian village, or explore the Hide and Seek trail and look out for some of the diverse species who make their home here in southern Ontario. Looking to get nose to beak with some birds of prey? Visit the Mountsberg Raptor Centre to learn more about the various Ontario-native species.

The Royal Botanical Gardens are inviting you to get Back to Nature with hiking through the park. These are free guided hikes through the vast nature spaces the park has to offer. Hiking is also available at all of our conservation parks. Visit Conservation Halton’s website for information and to see which one of the many beautiful trails here in BurlON is right for you.

Sp’egg’tacular Easter Event

Easter is coming early here in #BurlON. On Saturday April 13 visit the Ireland House Museum for the Sp’egg’tacular Easter Event. Hunt the Easter egg trail for a golden egg and meet the Easter Bunny. Enjoy children’s entertainment, a petting zoo and Easter-themed games and crafts. Plus get a tour of the historic house.  Fun for the whole family!

Springridge Farm barn

Springridge Farm

Our friends at Springridge Farm, just north of Burlington, are reopening on Friday.  Plan a visit to see what’s new in their gift barn, pick up some of their delicious baked goods and other treats, or play in their fun farmyard and enjoy the view from the escarpment.  This weekend is their Red Tag sale running April 12-15. Head to the loft in the gift barn for lots of great deals!

They will be open 9-5 daily from Friday until December 24.

Enjoy the Arts

Thurs the 11 at the Art Gallery of Burlington is Burlington Reads Meet the Author: George Elliot Clarke. Listen to author Dr. George Elliot Clarke talk about his provocative novel, The Motorcyclist.

Saturday April 13 is the Latow International AV Festival. Experience a showcase of different audio and visual techniques on theatre size screens. Tickets are available online or at the door.

Every Sunday there is an open studio for families to enjoy. Admission is always free so make sure you stop by to check out the wide collection of ceramics and other works of art and get creative.

If you love local performances, Theatre Burlington’s production of “A Bad Year for Tomatoes” begins its run this weekend. Enjoy a fun night at a hilarious comedy and support local theatre.

Brunch dishes

Brunch Anyone?

One of my favorite meals out is brunch and with so many local choices if the budget allows you could visit a different restaurant weekly.  Enjoy brunch while listening to Jazz music at the Rock Garden at the RBG.  This weekend  features Jazz Brunch with Steve Burnside and the Marquis,  For other great brunch ideas check out our Brunch in #BurlON blog.
