#BurlON Experiences = Amazing Holiday Gifts
Gift cards are a very popular item under the tree these days as it enables the person on your list to choose something for themselves after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. This year give a gift card that provides a memorable experience. It could be something that you know your loved one already enjoys or something new for them to try. Do you have a creative person on your list? What about an outdoor enthusiast, gardener or a teenager who loves to do crazy things and post photos? Many of our local attractions sell memberships, passes and certificates that make the perfect gift.
All About Arts
Art Gallery of Burlington – A gift of a membership to the gallery will enable your recipient to enjoy a reduction on art classes and events throughout the year and may spark a new hobby. I have taken several courses at AGB and have made new friends and created some beautiful gifts. Tourism Burlington frequently gives gift certificates from the Art Etc. Gallery shop and they are always a hit. The shop features hand crafted Canadian art. (Check out our holiday gift guide coming soon for more ideas.)
Burlington Performing Arts Centre – There are so many fabulous performances happening at the Centre this season that even those hard to please people on your list will find an experience that will inspire them. There are comedy acts, music, children’s performers, theatre and dance all hosted in a beautiful venue. You can give a gift certificate or purchase a membership that provides added benefits all during the year.
Get Out There!
Bronte Creek Provincial Park – Here’s a gift idea for that friend who loves fresh air and the great outdoors. You can provide them with unlimited daily vehicle access to all Ontario Parks including Bronte Creek Provincial Park by purchasing a winter or summer permit. Depending on the season, they can hike, cross country ski, disc golf, toboggan, visit the children’s farm and animals, explore the turn of the century Spruce Lane Farm house, swim in one of the largest outdoor pools in Canada, and participate in special events such as the popular Maple Syrup festival.
Conservation Halton – Check out Conservation Halton’s website for some wonderful ideas that will fit every budget. They are offering individual and family memberships to their 7 parks where you can explore nature and take in numerous events plus passes for Glen Eden Ski & Snowboard Centre.
City of Burlington – Gift of Play -As you go about your holiday shopping, remember you can always give the gift of play to that special someone in your life. Holiday gift cards are available at designated community centres and can be used for any of the City of Burlington recreation programs, drop-in programs and memberships. Tyandaga Golf Course also has gift cards for sale that can be used at the pro shop, for membership or lessons.
Love to Learn?
Museums of Burlington – Step back in time and explore Burlington’s historic past with a membership to Museums of Burlington. Ireland House is a fascinating example of farm life in Canada featuring three time periods in history. Did you know that most of the furnishings are original to the home and the knowledgeable tour guides have many stories to tell about the Ireland family? Museum membership is a great value and provides annual admission to the museums plus other perks such as discounts on events and their newly revitalized gift shop.
Royal Botanical Gardens – If you haven’t visited the RBG lately now is the time to rediscover it. Provide a gift of membership and your recipient will not only enjoy the lovely gardens (many of which have been rejuvenated over the past few years) plus they can attend discounted events throughout the year in this beautiful setting. Of course you can always purchase gift cards for the gift shop – where I always pick up something for holiday hostesses and great books!
For the young or young at heart there are lots of challenging activities that you can do to get your adrenaline pumping and gift certificates would make great stocking stuffers.
- Bad Axe Throwing – a hit with our summer staff
- Bowling – Splitsville & Burlington Bowl – always a fun outing
- Climber’s Rock – harder than it looks – a great challenge

- Faraway Greens – golf simulation with a cozy bar and snack menu
- Rockin’ Jump – indoor trampoline park – we have tested it out and it is such fun!
Remember these ideas for other special occasions throughout the year.
Tasty Culinary Experiences
Have a food lover in your group? Another fabulous gift idea is tickets for the winter launch and anniversary celebration of the Taste of Burlington program. It is taking place on Tuesday January 29, 2019 from 5:30 – 8 pm at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. Meet some of the restaurateurs who are participating in the winter program at their interactive food stations and sample their delectable cuisine plus Nickel Brook Brewing Co , Shaun & Ed Brewing Co. and Flat Rock Cellars will be on hand with samples of their award-winning craft beers and wine. This event always sells out so order yours startiing Nov 29 at BPAC.
Paradiso Restaurant located in the quaint downtown Village Square, offers a cooking studio with demonstrations and hands on approach where you prepare a meal under the guidance of their chefs. I have done these classes several times and it a fun and tasty experience! The LCBO on Appleby offers a full range of demonstrations from BBQ to Indian food. These classes are taught by award winning chefs from Burlington and beyond. There are also wine classes offered for anyone who would like to learn more about the wide variety of wines available. NOTE: These classes fill up quickly. Denningers now located at the Burlington Centre is offering various Taste of Denningers experiences from cheese, wine and chocolate to making holiday cheese boards – sounds like delicious fun!
