Burlington Celebrates Tourism Week in Canada
Did you know that Tourism is a $97 billion industry in Canada and is a key driver of economic growth and prosperity? The tourism industry supports over 735,000 jobs and over 180,000 tourism businesses generating economic development across the country.
Mayor Goldring proclaimed May 27 – June 2 as Tourism Week in Canada during his welcome remarks at Tourism Burlington’s Annual General Meeting held on May 24, 2018. The Annual meeting was organized as part of Tourism Week in Canada, a national initiative highlighting how Canada’s tourism industry contributes to the standard of living and quality of life of all Canadians.
“Tourism is a key contributor to our economy, not only on a national level but also right here in Burlington,”said Mayor Goldring. “Tourism also means business in Burlington, since more than 10,000 jobs and 700 businesses in our region are directly supported by the industry.”
Tourism Burlington is the official destination marketing organization for the city who promotes the city and supports local tourism businesses. Burlington welcomes over 1.3 million visitors annually to the city. “With summer just around the corner, our new visitor guide and other marketing tools will help show prospective visitors from all over the world the natural beauty and fabulous festivals in Burlington.” Tourism Burlington Executive Director Pam Belgrade. Tourism Burlington operates a Visitor Centre that is open 7 days a week at 414 Locust Street just minutes from our beautiful waterfront plus supports summer festivals, conferences, sport tournaments and tour groups.
