Burlington Celebrates Tourism Week in Canada 2019
Did you know that Tourism is a $97 billion industry in Canada and is a key driver of economic growth and prosperity? The tourism industry supports over 614,000 jobs and this represents 9.2% of all jobs in Canada and makes tourism the third largest job creator in Canada.
Mayor Meed-Ward proclaimed May 26 – June 2 as Tourism Week in Canada during her welcome remarks at Tourism Burlington’s Annual General Meeting held on May 23, 2019 at the new Courtyard by Marriott Burlington hotel. The Annual meeting was organized just prior to Tourism Week in Canada, a national initiative highlighting how Canada’s tourism industry contributes to the standard of living and quality of life of all Canadians.
There are 711 local tourism businesses and 6200 tourism jobs across Burlington which contributes to Burlington’s economy.
Tourism Burlington is the official destination marketing organization for the city who promotes the city and supports local tourism businesses. Burlington welcomes over 1.3 million visitors annually to the city. “With summer just around the corner, our new visitor guide and other marketing tools will help show prospective visitors from all over the world the natural beauty and fabulous festivals in Burlington.” Tourism Burlington Executive Director Pam Belgrade.
