Heritage Month in #BurlON

Our lovely city of Burlington has a rich heritage-structural, oral and cultural. If you’re looking to learn more about your community and its local heritage, there are some great opportunities happening all month long! We have gone from a one day Heritage Fair to a month long series of events held across the City of Burlington.  Take some time in February to explore all the events happening in celebration of Heritage Month in Burlington.

Visit Ireland House Museum for an Open House on Feb. 4 at 1 p.m., as they celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the end of WWI. Join Historian Kelly Gray on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m., to learn about Black History in Canada in her presentation “I am Canadian: Reflections Past and Present”.  Ireland House Museum will also host a Family Day event on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.

Take a walking tour of Downtown Burlington with Alan Harrington on Feb. 10 at 10a.m. We start at the  Tourism Burlington Visitor Information Centre at 414 Locust St. rain or shine, for a lively informative tour.

Historic Photo Brant InnDo you remember dancing the night away at the Brant Inn? Stop by Central Library on Feb. 17 to view the Brant Inn documentary film.  Showings at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The Burlington Historical Society opens its doors for its monthly meeting on Feb.12 for those who would like to hear Dennis Scott speak on Black History Month. Central Library at 7 p.m.

The UELAC-Hamilton Branch meet at St. Matthews on the Plains, Feb.22 at 7:30 p.m. This month the speaker is Erika V Alexander, who continues to carry on the good works of her grandfather, Lincoln Alexander. All are welcome!

Central Library is always a busy spot! Local heritage organizations and groups will set up displays in the lobby throughout the month. Drop in on Thursday’s and share your oral history of Burlington or have your old Burlington photo’s scanned.  Everything from films (Dunkirk) to the Hamilton Philharmonic to Genealogy Club to open mic sessions on “Does the Past Matter”.
